Filipino students can now earn degrees from Arizona State University (ASU) through a new program with Mapua University, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) announced on July 2. This partnership allows students to take select ASU courses at Mapua, providing a fresh pathway to international education.
Starting this school year, Mapua will offer several transnational higher education programs in collaboration with ASU.
The programs include business administration, marketing, data analytics, and global management, which lead to either double degrees or direct entry into master’s programs at ASU.
“We create another pathway for Filipino students to access and acquire international education,” said CHED Secretary Popoy De Vera in a statement.
The goal is to “enhance their skills in specialized areas and competitiveness in the global field.”
Mapua’s partnership with ASU, ranked 200th in the 2025 QS World University Rankings, aims to equip students with world-class training in international business, cross-cultural relations, and global political economy.
ASU is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the U.S. Department of Education. It has also been named the Most Innovative School in the U.S. for eight consecutive years by U.S. News & World Report.
The collaboration reflects the objectives of the Transnational Higher Education Act, enacted in 2019, to develop a globally competitive workforce.
This law enables CHED to foster effective transnational higher education programs in the Philippines.
Mapua University, a CHED-recognized institution, ranks 601-650 in the 2024 QS Asia Rankings. The new programs with ASU align with Mapua’s mission to provide students with opportunities for global education while studying locally.
CHED confirmed students have the opportunity to earn two degrees simultaneously or gain early admission into a master’s program at Arizona State University (ASU) by taking advantage of flexible international education programs.
The collaboration opens new doors for Filipino students seeking to enhance their education without leaving the country. It signifies a significant step forward in making international education more accessible to Filipino students.
