Free learning camp targets math, English, science skills for Antique students grades 1-10
Students in Antique province from Grades 1 to 10 will have the opportunity to sharpen their math, English, and science skills this summer through a free learning camp offered by the Department of Education (DepEd).
The National Learning Camp (NLC), which began last summer for Grades 7 and 8, is expanding to cater to a wider range of students.
It aims to create a camp-like atmosphere by integrating fun and engaging activities to foster learner interests, socio-emotional skills, personal growth and character development.
“The NLC will be conducted from July 1 to 19 in the different schools in Antique,” said Dr. Edward Baña, DepEd Antique curriculum and teaching division chief education supervisor.
The camp offers three placement options to cater to various learning needs.
Students who need additional help can enroll in the Intervention Camp, while those who have mastered the basics but need practice applying their knowledge can join the Consolidation Camp.
High-performing students can participate in the Enrichment Camp to further enhance their skills.
Baña explained, in a Philippine News Agency report, the NLC is “fun-filled” as it promotes active learning by moving lessons outside classrooms to practical settings.
This approach aims to make learning more engaging and enjoyable for students.
The initiative comes amid efforts to address learning gaps identified during the pandemic school closures.
“The NLC, aside from improving the knowledge and skills of the learners, also enables teachers to enhance their teaching competencies in making their instructions attractive to learners,” Baña added.
Over 19,000 students from both elementary and secondary levels have already signed up for the camp, with DepEd anticipating even more registrations.
Parents are encouraged to enroll their children in the NLC by contacting their respective schools.
The DepEd has introduced the NLC as a comprehensive learning recovery program aimed at supporting students and teachers in addressing the learning losses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Teachers participating in the NLC will receive additional service credits and a Certificate of Recognition for their involvement.
This free program provides a valuable opportunity for students to strengthen their academic foundation in a fun and interactive setting.
