The Department of Education-Davao de Oro has launched an investigation into the death of Marjorie Espinosa Llanto-Bolde, a teacher at Tibagon Elementary School.
Llanto-Bolde allegedly died from severe stress after receiving insults from the school principal, Alvin Escobar.
Her death has raised significant concerns about the treatment of teachers and mental health support in schools.
In a statement , DepEd-Davao de Oro assured the public it would conduct a thorough investigation into her death.
The division expressed its condolences to Llanto-Bolde’s family and encouraged everyone to “pray for the repose of her soul.”
Reports indicate that Llanto-Bolde suffered emotional distress after Escobar reprimanded her. He was blaming her for an incident involving a student who sustained head injuries while she was checking test papers.
A viral social media post by her relative, Hannah Llanto, revealed that the teacher felt insulted and questioned her abilities as an educator.
As the investigation unfolds, local officials are calling for better support systems for teachers in schools.
Davao de Oro Governor Dorothy Gonzaga said she plans to meet with both parties involved to ensure fair treatment.
“It is difficult to give a verdict now but [sic] pretty sure we will work with DepEd,” she said.
The parent of the injured student has also faced backlash online and urged people to consider both sides of the story before making judgements.
Teachers’ Dignity Coalition National Chairperson Benjo Basas emphasized the importance of compassion from school heads.
He pointed out that there are not enough policies and mental health programs to protect teachers.
