Teachers urge timely release of election honoraria

The Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) has urged the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to immediately release the honoraria and allowances for teachers and DepEd personnel who served in the recent elections.

TDC spokesperson Jim Lester Beleno cited reports that payments in some areas are scheduled between May 27 and 30—beyond the 15-day period mandated by the Election Service Reform Act of 2016.

“Many teachers remain unpaid five days after the polls. We worked quickly—counting, transmission, and proclamations were done efficiently. Payment should be just as prompt,” Beleno said, calling the delay unfair.

While TDC welcomed the additional P1,000 allowance for poll workers approved by the President, the group stressed that all payments must be released without further delay.

TDC is monitoring the situation and urged affected teachers to report unpaid honoraria.
