SSS targets nearly 3,000 Negros grads for social security membership
The Social Security System (SSS) in the Philippines is setting its sights on nearly 3,000 graduating students across Negros Island. The SSS aims to convince them to sign up for social security membership as they prepare to enter the workforce.
This membership drive will see SSS branch officers visit various educational institutions across the island.
The goal is to educate graduating senior high school and college students about the benefits of SSS membership.
“Graduating students may apply for an SS number and begin paying their monthly contributions as self-employed members once they start earning from business ventures or freelancing jobs,” said Lilani Benedian, SSS Vice President for Visayas West 1 Division, in a statement.
Benedian further explained that students who get hired in the private sector will have their contributions handled by their employers.
“If they get hired in the private sector, they must provide their employers with their SS number and become employed SSS members. It will now be the responsibility of their employers to remit their monthly contributions to SSS,” she added.
According to Benedian, SSS membership offers significant advantages. These include access to meaningful benefits and loan privileges.
These benefits can serve as a safety net for students as they navigate their future careers.
The SSS is taking a proactive approach to reach these soon-to-be graduates. SSS branches in Kabankalan City and Victorias City have already conducted orientations for students in nearby schools.
These sessions covered topics such as applying for an SS number and the importance of membership.
The SSS plans to extend its reach by collaborating with state colleges and universities.
The aim is to incorporate information about the value of SSS membership into graduation kits, providing graduates with a helpful resource as they embark on their job search.
