DTI, DepEd launch K4F-PH program to equip students for future careers in emerging industries
To bridge the skills gap and prepare Filipino students for modern industries, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department of Education (DepEd) have launched the “Kids for the Future of Philippine Industrialization” (K4F-PH) program.
The program, announced on the final day of Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual’s term, aims to integrate industry-relevant skills and knowledge into the basic education curriculum.
This approach seeks to cultivate a future-ready workforce by equipping students with the tools for success in sectors like information technology and renewable energy.
“To maintain this advantage in our rapidly evolving world, we must bridge the growing skills gap, ensuring our education system aligns with the needs of our industries,” said Pascual during the signing ceremony.
“Hence, the Kids for the Future program is that bridge. It will be our catalyst for synergy, uniting the academe, industry, and government in a shared mission to nurture a world-class workforce,” he added.
The K4F-PH program will help students choose academic paths that align with their career goals and economic growth. This approach will prepare individuals for rewarding careers, drive innovation, and attract foreign investment.
Education Secretary Juan Edgardo Angara expressed his support for the program, saying, “Ito nga yung marching orders ng ating mahal na Pangulo na bigyan natin ng trabaho, bigyan natin ng pag-asa, bigyan natin ng magandang kinabukasan ang ating kabataan. [This is the marching order of the President to give hope, chance, and brighter future to our youth through decent jobs in the future.]”
The Board of Investments will collaborate with DepEd on projects like career advocacy campaigns and industry tours for students.
These initiatives aim to boost enrollment in engineering degrees and promote infrastructure investments to create a better learning environment.
“As we embark on this transformative journey together, let us remember that the seeds we plant today will blossom into a future where Philippine industries flourish, Filipino talent is recognized globally, and the dreams of our youth become the driving force behind our nation’s success,” Pascual added.
The K4F-PH program is a key component of the DTI’s ASENSO Trabaho thrust, ensuring that the Philippines maintains its competitive edge by producing job-ready graduates who can fuel innovation and attract businesses.
