The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) has launched an investigation into allegations that a male teacher in Cebu City made sexual advances toward two minor students.
The CHR’s regional office in Central Visayas is conducting the inquiry in coordination with the victims’ families and the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Reports indicate that the teacher, who has not been named, allegedly asked the 14- and 17-year-old students to remove their shirts so he could see their abs.
When the students refused, the teacher was reportedly infuriated and bit the 17-year-old on the back and the 14-year-old on the arm.
In a statement on September 9, the CHR expressed concern over the incident.
“The Commission denounces any form of sexual advances, inappropriate conduct, or innuendos, especially when directed at children, and particularly within institutions of learning where safety and trust should prevail,” the statement read.
The commission emphasized that such behavior is especially alarming when it involves teachers, who are responsible for the care and education of their students.
The CHR is also prepared to provide support and assistance to the victims and their families.
They encourage those affected to take action, noting that holding individuals accountable is essential for ensuring justice and preventing similar incidents in the future.
According to an earlier report on GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak, the father of one of the students, who is a police officer, plans to file a formal complaint against the teacher.
