Education Secretary Sonny Angara has assured that the Department of Education (DepEd) is working to implement Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) coverage or an equivalent medical benefit for its employees by the upcoming school year.
Angara emphasized the agency’s commitment to prioritizing the health and well-being of its workforce, noting that providing access to quality healthcare is a concrete step toward recognizing their dedication and service.
“This is part of our continued efforts to support our teachers not just in the classroom, but also in their overall welfare,” Angara said.
Teachers have called for the immediate release of the P7,000 medical allowance following delays in enrolling to an HMO. This is to ensure teaches get to have their annual checkups before the school year starts.
DepEd is currently finalizing policies for the rollout. The agency said updates will be announced in the coming weeks.
