EdgePoint expands digital connectivity in Southeast Asia, benefitting over 6,500 students

ASEAN-based telecommunications infrastructure company EdgePoint Infrastructure announced the successful completion of 12 digital classrooms under its regional corporate responsibility initiative, dubbed as the Connectivity for Communities Program.

Launched just over a year ago, the program aims to improve digital literacy andeducational access in underserved areas of Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. The newly completed classrooms are fully equipped with seamless connectivity, digital learning devices and refurbished student common areas.

The initiative has already impacted more than 6,500 students, offering them the tools and access needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world, EdgePoint’s Executive Vice President for People and Corporate Office Chee Wi Lyn said in a statement.

Chee also said EdgePoint has also worked closely with teachers and local organizations to roll out long-term digital literacy programs.

“These digital classrooms have transformed the learning experience for our students,” Chee said. “They are now able to engage with interactive online modules, research topics of interest, and explore educational content beyond their textbooks. We’ve also seen students pick up valuable digital skills like video editing and presentation creation.”

EdgePoint reports significant positive outcomes since implementing the program, with participating schools recording a 10 percent improvement in attendance and a 6 percent increase in overall exam scores. Some schools have also noted as much as a 100 percent improvement in students’ digital literacy.

The benefits of the initiative have extended beyond the classroom, Chee said, adding that reliable internet access “has empowered not just the students, but their families and communities as well.”

Community members covered by the initiative are now using connectivity to access online jobs, manage financial transactions and pursue upskilling opportunities. This is helping them unlock their full potential and improve their quality of life.

EdgePoint emphasised that its efforts are closely aligned with its mission to bridge the digital divide across the region. The company collaborates with local partners to ensure that support is directed to communities with the greatest need.

Looking ahead, EdgePoint aims to complete 20 digital libraries in schools across its three key markets—Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines—by the end of 2025.
