Iloilo City is set to expand its Iloilo City Community College (ICCC) to cope with a surge in enrollment.

In a statement on June 10,  Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas said the city government plans to utilize a vacant one-hectare of the 2.5 hectares property previously occupied by the Department of Public Works and Highways as the new site of the ICCC campus.

“The college is growing very fast and we need additional land for our students,” Treñas said.

“We need additional classrooms since there are now a lot of enrollees,” he added, stating that the city architect is preparing a development plan to address this need.

The existing campus, located in Barangay San Pedro, caters to 1,041 students and offers four academic programs.

The college, which offers free tuition and miscellaneous fees, prioritizes graduates of city schools whose parents are residents of the city, with a maximum annual income of P240,000, and a good academic standing.

“We prioritize graduates of city schools and intend to open more courses once we have a bigger space,” said ICCC Administrator Maria Mathilde Treñas in an interview.

The BS Criminology program currently holds its classes on the third floor of the Diamond Jubilee Hall, located on Mabini Street in the city proper.

The expansion plans come after ICCC was recently recognized for its achievements

On May 30, the college received a 100% Compliance Rate for its undergraduate programs and was awarded Model Implementer for the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act during the 3rd CHED Regional Quality Awards.

The additional space will allow the college to accommodate more students and potentially offer new programs, providing more opportunities for residents to pursue higher education.
