P3M in school property lost in San Francisco High fire

An estimated P3 million worth of school property was lost in a fire that gutted parts of San Francisco High School in Quezon City, according to an initial damage report by the Schools Division Office (SDO).

The blaze destroyed eight academic classrooms and two non-academic rooms, resulting in the loss of nearly 400 student chairs, thousands of books, desks and several computers.

The damaged inventory included 360 armchairs, 32 orbit fans, 96 lighting fixtures, 29 teachers’ tables and chairs and around 150 bundles of Junior High School learning materials.

With classes set to begin Monday, school officials said affected students will temporarily be relocated to another building within the campus. Class schedules in the senior high school level will also be adjusted to account for the loss of facilities.

As of posting, fire investigators have yet to release their final report on the cause of the incident.

Meanwhile, school and education officials are coordinating with the Department of Education Central Office and the Quezon City government for recovery and support efforts.
