PBEd hopes PBBM keeps key education officials

The Philippine Business for Education (PBEd) is hoping for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. to retain the heads of key education agencies to sustain progress in ongoing reforms.

In a statement, PBEd said it “reaffirms its strong support for the current leadership of the education agencies,” thus hoping for their reappointment “to continue the vital reforms already underway.”

It also called Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonny Angara and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Secretary Jose Francisco “Kiko” Benitez a “formidable tandem” that has brought about “an unprecedented level” of collaboration between the agencies, necessary to align learning and skills development with the demands of the workforce.

This, after Angara submitted his courtesy resignation while Benitez expressed his intention to do so, following the directive of the president for cabinet officials and heads of agencies to step down for a government revamp.

Meanwhile, Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairperson J. Prospero de Vera III has yet to announce his plan. But as his term ends next year, the group looks forward to a replacement who will continue the progress achieved in higher education.

“We believe that coherent and connected leadership across DepEd, TESDA and CHED is crucial to unlocking the country’s full demographic and economic potential,” the group said.

“With the ongoing crisis plaguing the education system, PBEd remains committed to working with leaders who understand that fixing the system will drive economic growth and enable Filipinos to lead productive lives,” it added.
