TDC and LENTE to open help desks to protect teachers during May 12 elections

o set up a joint command post to monitor and respond to election-related concerns of poll workers.

The Teachers Dignity Coalition (TDC) and the Legal Network for Truthful Elections (LENTE) are setting up a joint command post to monitor and respond to election-related concerns of poll workers, especially teachers, on May 12.

As in previous elections, TDC will run a help desk at their national office in Caloocan City starting 8 a.m. on May 11 until noon on May 13. This help desk will be managed by teachers who chose not to serve as election workers. At the same time, LENTE’s lawyers and law students will be at their office in Quezon City, ready to answer calls and provide legal help.

“The command post will be open to all reports of harassment, intimidation, election-related violence, procedural lapses, and other untoward incidents involving public school teachers and the voting public,” the statement read.

Both groups will handle issues separately but will work together to help anyone needing support.

The TDC urged teachers and citizens to support the effort by reporting any suspected cases.

“This election is both highly contested and emotionally charged. Collective vigilance is essential to ensure the integrity of the vote and safeguard our democracy, Basas concluded.

TDC members across all 17 regions of the country are mobilized to provide firsthand updates from their respective provinces and cities and are ready to coordinate with the Department of Education, Commission on Elections, police and media to quickly respond to reports.

All reports gathered through the command post will be compiled and submitted to concerned agencies to help improve election policies in the future.
