Teachers’ group urged senatorial bets to push for P15K salary hike

The Teachers Dignity Coalition (TDC) has challenged senatorial aspirants to support their call for the “long-overdue” P15,000 increase in the salaries of public school teachers and Department of Education (DepEd) employees.

The group called on senatorial aspirants to go beyond motherhood statements and platitudes.

“We challenge all candidates running for the Senate to make a categorical, public stand: Do you support the P15,000 across-the-board increase in the salaries of public school teachers or not? Teachers deserve to know your answer now,” the TDC statement read.

TDC National Chairperson Benjo Basas stressed that this salary adjustment, proposed under Senate Bill 2743 introduced by Senator Risa Hontiveros, is “long overdue as teachers have suffered from decades of low pay, heavy workloads and worsening working conditions.”

“Do not simply say you value education. Prove it by supporting the people who make education happen. If you want our votes, show us your commitment—will you fight for teachers’ dignity and support the P15,000 salary increase, or will you remain silent and complicit in this systemic neglect?” Basas added.
