The University of Sto. Tomas (UST) on Thursday lamented the passing of a 22-year-old Physical Therapy student after committing suicide for allegedly failing to graduate
In a statement, the university extended its condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones, acknowledging their “grief and pain” while asking everyone to respect the family’s privacy.
“Since the unfortunate incident, the University’s services have been delivered to those closest to Junver and all those in need. We remain committed to the well-being of all our stakeholders,” it said.
The student, identified as Junver Toledo, was from the College of Rehabilitation Sciences and was set to graduate in June but allegedly failed a subject even after taking it a second time to secure his place in the graduation list.
On second try, he was allegedly short by 1.5% to meet the passing score.
“Sorry kung kulang pa rin. Pinilit and kinausap ko na sila and ayaw talaga [I’m sorry if it’s still not enough. I really tried and talked to them but they still refused],” read Toledo’s letter posted by his father on Facebook.
UST said it is prepared to provide Thomasian students with mental health services through the assistance of the school’s psychiatrists and psychologists from the institutional and volunteer groups.
