The Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2) has bolstered its ranks with the addition of five new members to strengthen its focus on Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD), as well as Governance and Finance within the Philippine education sector.

EDCOM 2, a national commission mandated to comprehensively assess the performance of the country’s education sector, has strategically expanded its team to enhance its capacity for conducting reviews, formulating policies, and recommending programs.

The news members, who are considered as experts in their respective fields, are Dr. Maria Asuncion Silvestre, nutrition expert; Dr. Malcolm Garma, education systems specialist; Nieves Confesor, former secretary of the Department of Labor and Employment; Dr. Karl Kendrick Chua, former director general of the National Economic and Development Authority; and Roger Masapol, education specialist.

The new members will join the other members of the Standing Committees of the Commission, which include Technical Vocational Education and Training & Lifelong Learning, and Higher Education & Teacher Education and Development.

The experts will also help in EDCOM2’s mandate to conduct a national review and assessment of education agencies, formulate policy and program recommendations.
