A team of Filipino students triumphed at the Huawei ICT Competition, clinching the grand prize in the Computing Track Global Finals on May 20 and making history as the first Philippine team to win in the prestigious competition.

The winners hails from iACADEMY, an educational institution with campuses in Makati and Cebu.

The team members, Nicholas Barilea, Ryan Caezar Itang and Justine Benedict Umali, along with their coaches Professor Jayson Viernes and Dean Kiko Napalit, emerged victorious over other country delegates after a series of challenges designed to test their ICT (information and communications technology) skills.

The Huawei ICT Competition is a global platform developed to cultivate and recognize top talents in the ICT field.

Students from Huawei ICT academies and higher education institutions worldwide compete in various tracks, including Cloud, Network, and Computing.

The Computing Track Global Finals, considered the competition’s pinnacle event, presents a challenging series of tests designed to assess students’ theoretical knowledge and practical ICT skills.

Winning this track signifies exceptional expertise and problem-solving abilities in a field critical to the modern world, solidifying the Philippines’ potential in the ICT sector.

“This historic win not only celebrates the triumph of iACADEMY’s talented students but also shines a spotlight on the institution’s unwavering commitment to excellence and innovation in education,” the iACADEMY said in a post

This achievement marks a significant milestone that puts  both iACADEMY and the Philippines at the forefront of ICT education in the region, the school said, inspiring future generations to excel in the field.

iACADEMY offers senior high school and college programs specializing in computing, business and design to equip students with skills for today’s dynamic industries.
