The Philippine team’s haul included two gold medals, 12 silver medals and 16 bronze medals. Additionally, seven Filipino students received merit awards.

The competition, which drew nearly 300 contestants in grade school from 10 countries, tested the participants’ problem-solving abilities, critical thinking skills, and mathematical knowledge.

Students from Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines competed on-site, while participants from China, Taiwan, Macau, Malaysia, Vietnam and Laos joined virtually.

“We are incredibly proud of our team’s performance,” said Dr. Archieval Rodriguez, who headed the Philippine delegation with Enerio Sagusay. “These students have put in countless hours of study and practice, and their hard work has paid off in the most remarkable way. They have not only made their country proud but have also inspired the next generation of mathematical champions.”

The Mathematics Trainers’ Guild Philippines (MTG), which trained the Filipino participants, echoed Dr. Rodriguez’s sentiment.

“This victory is a testament to the strength of our education system and the dedication of our teachers and trainers,” said MTG President Dr. Isidro Aguilar.

Simon Chua, head of MTG, praised the students’ performance, noting that all the Filipino participants won medals, demonstrating their strong math skills.

The IMWiC win serves as a confidence booster for the Philippines’ young mathematicians.

Twenty MTG-trained students are set to represent the country in the upcoming Global Math Competition slated for June 29 to July 2 in Vietnam.
